Livvy Dunne is giving the stiff arm to the mascot of the Detroit Tigers.
Paws, the mascot of the Tigers, went viral during Thursday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Star pitcher Paul Skenes, who is the boyfriend of the gymnastics star Dunne, was the starter for the Pirates that day at Comerica Park in Detroit, Mich.
During the second inning of the game, Paws could be seen holding up a hilarious sign behind the plate while Skenes was pitching. The sign read, “Sup Livvy Dunne” along with a bunch of red hearts (see the image here).
While Skenes was seemingly unfazed by the sign (firing six innings of two-run ball as the Pirates eventually went on to win 8-4), Paws did manage to successfully get the attention of Dunne herself. Dunne posted a message to her X page in which she shot down Paws’ efforts to woo her.
“sorry… not my type of tiger @tigers,” Dunne wrote, along with a screenshot of the mascot’s sign.
The 22-year-old Dunne was referencing her college days there. She used to compete in gymnastics for LSU, whose athletic teams are also known as the Tigers. Dunne even helped lead LSU to their first-ever national championship in gymnastics last year.
Dunne and Skenes have been together since 2023 and clearly continue to enjoy each other’s company very much. Thus, Paws ended up failing on both fronts there — in trying to shoot his shot with Dunne and in trying to distract Skenes enough for the Tigers to get the win over the Pirates.
