Fever lose again and have reason to worry playing without Caitlin Clark

WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark is dealing with a left groin issue, which left her watching Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Sparks on the sidelines as her Indiana Fever lost, 85-75.

That's not to say that Clark wasn't involved in the game. Her trademark fire and passion was on display, even in street clothes. At one point she was arguing with one of the referees about a call.

That led to Sparks star Kelsey Plum lobbying with the ref to give Clark a technical for stepping on the court. In the grand scheme of Clark's altercations, it was a relatively low-stress moment. It was still a moment worth noting, though, because that was the only impact the former No. 1 overall pick could make on the game due to the injury.

With the loss, the Fever fell to 7-8 on the season. More worrisome than that, though, is the fact that they're now 2-4 playing without Clark.

She missed five games with a left quad injury earlier this season and she's now missed one with this left groin issue. If there's anything positive coming out of Thursday for Indiana, it's the fact that head coach Stephanie White does seem hopeful that Clark won't miss much time.

"I think it's very much a day-to-day thing ... how she responds to treatment," White said on Thursday when asked for a timeline, according to Kendra Andrews of ESPN.

The Fever's next game is on Friday at the Dallas Wings.

Considering their record without Clark, you can bet Indy is hoping Clark will respond well to treatment and be able to play. There wouldn't be any wisdom in rushing her back either so it's going to be interesting to see how it plays out this weekend.
