Anthony Davis has undergone a procedure this offseason, but the good news for the Dallas Mavericks star is that he should be ready to go by the time training camp rolls around.
That's good news for the Mavs too, because Davis is the centerpiece of the post-Luka Doncic era in Dallas.
No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg is going to get all the press his rookie season, but having a healthy Davis on the floor with him will make life that much easier for the 6-foot-9, 205-pound forward who could be a generational talent.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Davis underwent a procedure to repair a detached retina that he suffered during the 2024-25 season. Davis suffered multiple hits to the face last season that he ended up playing through.

Davis played in only nine games after he was traded to Dallas in a blockbuster move that sent Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. In his debut game, AD notched 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks before leaving the game with a groin injury that kept him out for six weeks.
In order for Dallas' rebuild around Flagg to work, Davis has to be healthy, so getting this done right now in the offseason is an important move. Of equal importance is the health of Kyrie Irving, but he's not expected to return until 2026 as he rehabs a torn ACL he suffered in March.
