In a follow-up to the rumors that the Canucks were closing in on Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram, it appears that the exact players Buffalo wants in return have been revealed.

Trade discussions between the Buffalo Sabres and Vancouver Canucks for defenseman Bowen Byram are at a significant advancement stage, with the Sabres having likely made their asking price obvious.

On the most recent episode of "Strictly Canucks Talk," NHL podcaster Tanbir revealed that the Sabres have specified what they want as a return trade from the Canucks.

Byram, 24, is one of the most discussed trade candidates in the league this summer and is No. 2 on TFP's Summer Trade Watch List.

Byram is a restricted free agent and would need to be re-signed

With the end of his two-year, $7.7 million contract, he will be a restricted free agent on July 1, and he represents an attractive combination of youth, mobility and upside from the blue line.

In spite of the New York Rangers, Calgary Flames and Philadelphia Flyers all having been thrown into the hat as potential destinations for Byram, Vancouver is now apparently in the driver's seat.

The Sabres require NHL-ready assistance as they try to snap their playoff drought, and it appears they've identified what they've been searching for in return.
