Kris Wright's first full-time NASCAR Xfinity Series season has been a rough one, but things went from bad to worse for the 30-year-old driver on Saturday.
Wright entered the race weekend at the Chicago Street Course 29th in the Xfinity Series standings, but the No. 5 Our Motorsports Chevrolet was 34th in the owner standings. That low standing in owner points put Wright in danger of missing Saturday's The Loop 110 if he ran a slow enough lap in qualifying.
When Wright was the slowest of the 35 cars to take time in qualifying with a lap of 94.866 seconds, he missed the race. It's Wright's first DNQ of 2025.
Through 17 races this season, Wright has only one top-10 finish — a ninth-place effort in a wreck-filled race at Martinsville on March 29. He also had a 17th-place finish in Mexico City on June 14.
Wright was called out by fellow Xfinity Series driver Josh Bilicki after a series of incidents at Daytona and Atlanta. Wright has failed to climb above 29th in the points standings this season — a poor mark considering Anthony Alfredo's performance in the No. 5 in 2024, where Alfredo never dropped below 20th in the standings and collected seven top-10 finishes.
Wright and the No. 5 team will look to bounce back at Sonoma Raceway next weekend.
