The Pittsburgh Pirates were swept by the Seattle Mariners over the weekend after their bats went completely cold, and they made some unique history in the process.
The Mariners beat the Pirates, 1-0, on Sunday despite another strong effort from Paul Skenes, who allowed just five hits and struck out 10 in five innings of work. Pittsburgh did not score a single run in the series and was outscored 8-0 over the three games.
What made the scoring drought really unusual is that it came immediately after the Pirates were on the other side of a very similar sweep in their previous series. The Pirates were coming off a series where they shut out the St. Louis Cardinals in three consecutive games.
With that, Pittsburgh became the first team in MLB history to play in back-to-back series of at least three games where one of the teams did not score a single run.

The Pirates had won six straight entering their series against Seattle, so they were firing on all cylinders. It was a surprise to see their offensive output disappear.
The Pirates will look to get back on track when they begin a series against the Kansas City Royals on Monday. Like it or not, they now have a new spot in the MLB history book.
