Eli Manning reveals final decision about possibly buying minority stake in Giants

A report from this past February revealed that New York Giants legend Eli Manning could potentially be part of an investment group that would purchase a 10 percent stake in the Giants.

On Wednesday, Manning told CNBC Sport that he is no longer pursuing such a deal.

"Basically, it’s too expensive for me," Manning directly said, per Ryan Novozinsky of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com. "These numbers are getting very big. ...A one-percent stake of something valued at $10B — it turns into a very big number."

To compare, CNBC's Jessica Golden and Michael Ozanian noted in October 2024 that retired quarterback Tom Brady and Knighthead Capital founder Tom Wagner "bought about" a 10 percent stake in the Las Vegas Raiders at a $3.5B valuation.

Interestingly, Manning also added that a potential purchase of a piece of the Giants could create "a lot of conflicts" as it pertains to his other business endeavors, such as serving as a commentator for alternate "Monday Night Football" broadcasts along with his brother, Peyton Manning. Brady was approved as a minority owner of the Raiders even though he also works as Fox's lead NFL in-game analyst.

Brady reportedly must follow strict guidelines regarding what he can say and do as a Fox announcer who has a direct relationship with a single franchise. That said, numerous stories shared throughout the first half of 2025 detailed Brady's alleged involvement in the Raiders' offseason activities, such as their hiring of head coach Pete Carroll and the acquisition of quarterback Geno Smith from the Seattle Seahawks.

In June, Brady downplayed his role with the Raiders and insisted he is "just a limited partner" who is a "sounding board" for Carroll, general manager John Spytek and majority owner Mark Davis. Spytek was Brady's former teammate at the University of Michigan.

There's no indication this summer that the "conflicts" referenced by Manning will cause NFL owners to step in and tell Brady that he must pick a lane and leave the broadcast booth if he's essentially "running" the Raiders as a minority owner. Brady still has over 300 million reasons to want to keep working for Fox as long as he's permitted.
