Maxx Crosby 'looking forward to' Raiders-49ers joint practice for hilarious reason

The San Francisco 49ers and Las Vegas Raiders are scheduled to come together for a joint practice held in Henderson, Nevada, on Aug. 14 before the two clubs face off in a preseason game at Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium on Aug. 16.

During the latest edition of his "The Rush with Maxx Crosby" podcast, the star Raiders pass-rusher explained why he can't wait to spend some time with 49ers players later this summer.

"The fights, bro. I have a 100 percent fight rate at joint practices, and I'm looking forward to continuing that trend," Crosby said, as shared by Tristi Rodriguez of NBC Sports Bay Area. "I just know it's going to happen, and I'm not going to try to cause some issues or whatever. I just know eventually it's going to happen. And I'm here for it. It's going to be so much fun. Joint practices is a staple, bro. You need to. It's just a part of the NFL culture."

As Daniel Greenspan once noted for ESPN, Las Vegas and Los Angeles Rams players were involved in "several skirmishes" and "a melee" during a 2021 joint practice. In 2023, Crosby and then-Rams running back Cam Akers "came to blows during a joint practice."

Raiders general manager John Spytek and head coach Pete Carroll may ask Crosby to be on his best behavior for the upcoming sessions involving the 49ers. After all, Las Vegas signed Crosby to a three-year, $106.5M contract extension earlier in the offseason.

As for the 49ers, they made Brock Purdy one of the NFL's highest-paid quarterbacks when they handed him a five-year, $265M contract extension that included $181M in guarantees and a no-trade clause this past spring. Needless to say, San Francisco won't want Purdy to take any unnecessary blows before games begin to matter in September.

Add in that the Niners dealt with a noteworthy injury crisis last season, and one would think head coach Kyle Shanahan will ask his players to avoid getting into fights with members of the Raiders.

"You're going up against the Niners," Crosby continued. "Shanahan. [Defensive line coach Kris Kocurek]. You got some of the best coaches in the league over there and some of the best players. You got [pass-rusher Nick Bosa] , (offensive tackle) Trent Williams, who I'll be able to go against. (Running back) Christian McCaffrey, Brock Purdy, a bunch of good (expletive) players. So I definitely look forward to the challenge."

Time will tell if Shanahan and Carroll will face the challenge of having to break up an altercation or two on Aug. 14.
