Las Vegas Raiders star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby admits his team still has plenty of work to do to compete with QB Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City Chiefs — and rightfully so.
Since Crosby entered the NFL in 2019, the Chiefs had the upper hand in the storied rivalry. The Raiders have a 2-10 record against the Chiefs in games Crosby played while Mahomes was the QB. While Crosby has done his share of being a force on the field by sacking Mahomes six times, he acknowledged the Raiders need to flip the script fast. He also appreciated the praise from Mahomes, who said Crosby is the best pass-rusher he's faced.
"It means a lot," Crosby said during a news conference Wednesday. "We've been going at it for six years now and we expect to have a lot more wars as we move forward. I respect the hell out of him, but at the end of the day, he knows what time it is and I know what time it is with him. He's the ultimate competitor and I look at myself as the ultimate competitor. I look at myself as the best in the world, and I know he thinks he's the best in the world. He brings the best out of me and I know I bring the best out of him. We have a lot of work to do until we get there."
It is not a surprise that Crosby thinks highly of Mahomes, but the former Eastern Michigan star wants to flip the rivalry. In fact, both of the Raiders' wins over the Chiefs have come in Kansas City. Crosby would like to see those wins finally come at home.
Will the tide turn with new head coach Pete Carroll leading the way?
Crosby is counting on it and hoping when the Raiders face the Chiefs in Week 7 on Oct. 19 that Vegas will finally have the advantage against Mahomes and Co.
