Texas A&M provided a hometown feel for 2027 4-star QB Jayce Johnson

Jayce Johnson is a 4-star quarterback recruit from Valdosta, Georgia. He's a 2027 recruit, meaning he's going into just his junior season of high school football.

As such, he technically has plenty of time to make a decision as to where he'll play college ball, but a recent visit to Texas A&M made it so that the 4-star was ready to seal the deal.

He always wanted to commit early anyhow, and at Texas A&M, Johnson found everything that he was looking for.

He committed to the Aggies on Monday.

“I always knew I would commit early. I’d been talking about it for a while. I wanted to lock in before my junior season," Johnson told Chad Simmons of Rivals. "It just felt right. The love they showed — not just to me, but to my mom, dad, and little sister — it meant a lot. I’m big on love and loyalty, and being around the people and the town in the summer really sealed it.”

Florida State, Duke, Tennessee and SMU were also in the running for Johnson's commitment, but the vibe at Texas A&M just felt right.

“The environment reminds me of home. It’s a football town, it is a country town — just like Valdosta. And I really connected with the staff. I love their spiritual side, their discipline, and how they bring people together," Johnson said.

He also spoke highly of head coach Mike Elko and offensive coordinator Collin Klein.

“Coach Klein has been there and done it. He knows how to put me in a position to succeed. I love his coaching style,” Johnson said.

Johnson is a big commitment for Texas A&M. At 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, he's ranked as the No. 3 quarterback in the 2027 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.
