Blue Jays make MLB history in win over Marlins

After scoring one in the third, two in the sixth and then another in the seventh, Toronto was on track to cruise to another victory. However, the Marlins would refuse to go down without a fight. 

Miami put three runs on the board in the bottom of the seventh, inching to just within one run going into the final two frames. 

In the ninth, Javier Sanoja, who doubled home a run on his prior at-bat, tied the game with a line drive base hit. He finished the night going 3-for-5 with three RBI.

Then in the 10th, the Blue Jays reclaimed the lead when Bo Bichette scored off a sacrifice fly from Ty France. 

But of course, that wouldn't be enough. 

Marlins center fielder Jake Marsee doubled home Otto Lopez to send the game to the 11th inning. 

The resilient Blue Jays continued to refuse to blow the game. Andrés Giménez singled another potential game-winning run home. 

Unfortunately for Toronto, the one-run lead remained a bad omen, at least a bit longer, as Sanoja did it again with another game-tying single. 

The pain of squandering leads eventually morphed into relief and satisfaction when Bichette sent George Springer home with his fourth hit of the game in the 12th, making the score 7-6.

The Marlins' luck ran out, and that's how the game would end. Bichette was the hero. 

Despite the back and forth, Toronto picked up its 76th win of the season in both dramatic and historic fashion. 

Hoping for a shorter day at the office, the Blue Jays will wrap up their series in Miami on Sunday afternoon.
