Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has popped the question to singer-songwriter Taylor Swift.
The celebrity couple, who have been dating since 2023, announced their engagement on Instagram on Tuesday.
The engagement makes it apparent that Kelce, who turns 36 on Oct. 5, is ready to settle down. That could fuel more rumors about whether the 2025 season will be his last.
In a story published Tuesday, ESPN's Nate Taylor indicated the Chiefs are preparing for that scenario. And if it's his last ride, they want the future Hall of Famer to go out on top.
"Hopefully, he'll go out a champion," Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said of Kelce at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, via Taylor. "Hopefully, he has a magical season to end a magical career."
Kelce — who is entering the last year of a two-year contract — hasn't clarified whether he will retire after the 2025 season. In July, the 10-time Pro Bowler indicated he may reveal his plans in March 2026, when the new league year starts.
For now, he focused on helping the Chiefs rebound from a 40-22 Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. According to Taylor, the TE reiterated, "I can't go out like that," throughout the offseason.
Kelce spent less time in the spotlight and more time training this offseason to accomplish that goal.
"You've got to rebuild your body," Kelce said. "This year, I got some time to really focus on some form-running and some things early on in the offseason that I just didn't have time for last year. Certainly, I'm feeling good, and I think it'll pay off."
The Chiefs hope so, too. Kelce looked like he was exiting his prime last season. In 16 regular-season games, he had 97 receptions for 823 yards and three touchdown catches, his lowest figure since his rookie season in 2013.
Perhaps the pain from the Super Bowl loss will help him recapture his elite form. And, if he's planning to retire after the 2025 season, so could his desire to ride off into the sunset with Swift.
