Chris Fowler praises Lee Corso before legend's final 'College GameDay' show

Lee Corso has been a mainstay for ESPN's "College GameDay" ever since it first hit the airwaves.

The former college football player and head coach turned broadcaster has become a legend amongst college football fans for his analysis as well as his headgear picks. He's been doing it since 1987, but his long tenure on the beloved show is coming to a close this Saturday.

His final broadcast will be on "GameDay" in Columbus, Ohio, as the show prepares college football fans for a massive showdown between No. 1 Texas and No. 3 Ohio State.

Recently speaking on ESPN's "Get Up", "GameDay" host Chris Fowler described what he believes it will be like to be a part of Corso's last appearance.

"It's going to be a white-knuckle ride for me just to get through it," Fowler said (h/t On3).

Fowler and Corso have been doing the show for 25 years together, and they've known each other for even longer.

It's no surprise, then, that Fowler is a firm believer in Corso's status as a college football legend.

"He's one of one. We'll never see another one like him," Fowler said. "And I think the way that he has brought generations of people into the sport through his passion — to mean, he's first and foremost a coach. He coached me when I was a young coach. He certainly coached Kirk Herbstreit. He's coached Desmond [Howard]. He's been, I think, a great presence in the lives of all of us and for so many viewers who feel like he's their grandpa or he's the guy who got them into the sport."

Corso, 90, played at Florida State in the late 1950s and then coached at Louisville, Indiana and Northern Illinois. His legacy is as more than just a broadcaster. As Fowler mentioned, he was a coach and a coach-like figure for many. He was also one heck of a player in his time. At one point, he held the Florida State record for most career interceptions with 14.

When you think about college football, Corso is one of the first names that naturally comes up.

As far as his trademark headgear pick is concerned, Fowler does believe that this could end up being a full-circle moment. Corso very well may ride with Ohio State for his final prediction.

"Brutus the Buckeye was his very first headgear pick, as you know. I wouldn't be surprised if he put on that head. I think it's at the middle of the field. It's going to be quite the thing," Fowler said.

It's going to be quite the thing, indeed.
