Tigers two-time All-Star's first career grand slam was historic

Detroit Tigers left fielder Riley Greene entered Tuesday night's game with 31 home runs on the season and 71 for his career. But he never hit a grand slam. That was until he crushed a mammoth blast for the first grand slam of his career.

Greene's grand slam came with the Tigers trailing the Athletics 3-0 in the top of the third on Tuesday night in Sacramento, California. It also did more than just clear the bases and give Detroit the lead at the time.

Greene's first career grand slam traveled 471 feet, making it one of the furthest ever hit.

In fact, it's the longest by any Tiger in the Statcast era (2015-present).

Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber crushed one 473 feet in 2019 and Yankee star Giancarlo Stanton sent a ball 471 feet in 2021.

Greene's grand slam to straightaway center field moved him just one RBI shy of reaching 100 in a season for the first time in his career. His previous single-season best was the 74 he drove in last summer.

In 130 games played for the American League Central-leading Tigers, Greene now has 32 home runs, 26 doubles and 99 RBI.

Greene, 24, who made his second consecutive All-Star team this season, is hitting .269 with a .519 slugging percentage, a .324 on-base percentage and a .843 OPS.
