Packers GM comments on Micah Parsons as trade rumors continue

With the Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons still at an impasse in contract negotiations, rumors about the EDGE's future are swirling.

The pass-rusher is set to enter the fifth-year option of his rookie contract and has requested a trade. In a story published Wednesday, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported the Green Bay Packers are "interested" in a potential Parsons deal, but some of the buzz has been overblown.

Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst addressed the Parsons rumors in a Wednesday news conference. He attempted to sidestep a question about trading for the four-time Pro Bowler but didn't rule out the possibility.

"First of all, I can't talk about any players on any of the other teams, but I think every opportunity that's out there that we think could help the Packers, we're going to take a long look at," Gutekunst said. "If that opportunity makes sense to us, then we'll do it, and if it doesn't, we won't."

A trade for the Cowboys star would likely include multiple first-round picks. Green Bay could be in a position to give up valuable draft capital after consecutive playoff appearances, especially for a player of Parsons' caliber.

Since Dallas selected him with pick No. 12 in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Penn State Nittany Lions product has amassed 52.5 sacks, earning two first-team All-Pro selections.

Green Bay's defense could use an elite pass-rusher like Parsons. Per Pro Football Reference, the Packers had the league's 14th-most pressures (143) in 2024 and 16th-highest pressure rate (22.1%).

Dallas still may reject trade offers from Green Bay. Keeping Parsons could make more sense for the club. The Cowboys can't afford to lose elite players after going 7-10 last season.

Despite that, questions about whether Dallas and Parsons will reach an agreement remain. He hasn't confirmed if he'll play in the Cowboys' season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 4 at 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC, Peacock).

Unless both parties reach a compromise before the start of the season, the Packers could still be linked to Parsons. Acquiring the 26-year-old could be an excellent move for the franchise.
