Malik Nabers talks building chemistry with Russell Wilson amid Jaxson Dart buzz

New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson must continue building a rapport with star wide receiver Malik Nabers to protect his job.

In a Wednesday news conference, Nabers said he and Wilson have been clicking in practice.

"We've been on the same page a lot," the WR said. "That connection is going to keep growing. It can never be as great as we want it to be, but it's going to be as good as we hope it's going to be. But we continue to still get work, try to get those catches in and out. But the relationship has been going good."

Bonding with Nabers will be crucial for Wilson, who may be facing increased pressure from rookie QB Jaxson Dart.

The former Ole Miss Rebels star looked sharp in preseason, going 32-of-47 passing for 372 yards and three touchdown passes in three games. This has convinced some media members that the first-round pick could replace Wilson early in the season.

Considering Wilson may be approaching the end of his career, it wouldn't be shocking if New York made a QB change this season. Over his past three seasons with the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers, the 36-year-old passer failed to throw for more than 3,524 passing yards.

However, the Giants' decision will likely hinge on who jells with Nabers. The 2024 first-round pick is the engine that drives their passing attack.

During his rookie season, the former LSU Tigers star had the league's fifth-most receptions (109 in 15 games), seventh-most receiving yards (1,204) and tied for 21st in touchdown catches (seven).

Wilson has had more reps with Nabers throughout the offseason. That hasn't stopped Dart from impressing the WR. He took notice of the QB's competitive fire during a pickup basketball game this summer.

Still, if Wilson and Nabers continue to develop more chemistry, that should help the veteran fend off the rookie.
