Quarterback Aaron Rodgers became known for making weekly appearances on "The Pat McAfee Show" during NFL seasons long before he signed a team-friendly contract to join the Pittsburgh Steelers in June.
During Thursday's edition of the "Pro Football Talk Live" program, NFL insider Mike Florio suggested that Rodgers speaking with the "McAfee" crew as an active player may be over.
"There has been some talk that he's not going to do the 'McAfee Show' this year," Florio said about Rodgers, per Alex Kozora of Steelers Depot. "He wasn't on the show this week, Tuesday. We'll see. There's been some chatter he may not do it."
Neither head coach Aaron Glenn nor general manager Darren Mougey was with the New York Jets when Rodgers made his weekly "McAfee" appearances. In February, shortly after it was learned that Glenn and Mougey were moving on from Rodgers, a report claimed that the Jets no longer wanted the 41-year-old to appear on the "McAfee Show." Mougey later insisted that "there was never an ultimatum or rules of engagement for Aaron to potentially join the Jets again."
Florio previously noted that Rodgers said during a "McAfee Show" appearance in June that he will not "want to live a life in the public eye" once he retires. He also said that he didn't "want the attention."
Rodgers hasn't yet confirmed that he will retire following the 2025 campaign, but he has acknowledged that he wants to end his career "the right way" after a disappointing two-year stint with the Jets. Perhaps the future Hall of Famer now agrees with those who said his "McAfee Show" chats created unnecessary "distractions" for Gang Green.
Rodgers may have plenty to say, though, if he leads the Steelers to a win against the Jets in New York on Sunday. Then again, perhaps he will already be "on to the next game" following the Week 1 contest.
