Following a disappointing wild-card round exit to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles last season, the Green Bay Packers have generated headlines as of late.
With the recent acquisition of star pass-rusher Micah Parsons to bolster its defensive efforts, Green Bay enters the 2025 season with a roster more than capable of competing for a Super Bowl.
Much of that potential resides in quarterback Jordan Love, who enters his sixth season in the league and third as a starter. After an injury-filled 2024 campaign and an offseason surgery to repair a ligament in his left thumb, could this finally be the year he takes Green Bay to that next level?
Love says he has "no concern" with his thumb injury, so former NFL QB and current ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky chose the signal-caller as his MVP pick for the 2025 season on ESPN's "Get Up" on Thursday.
"[Jordan Love] is my MVP pick. It's time," Orlovsky said. '... The organization did something they haven't done in 20-plus years. They took a first-round wide receiver. [ESPN NFL insider] Field Yates — not a lateral comparison — but said Matthew Golden, who they took out of Texas, reminded him a lot of Steve Smith (Sr.).
"So, this is arguably the deepest skill group in the NFL. Five or six legit NFL wide receivers, two really good tight ends, Jordan Love's crazy talented. This has been an offense that, pass game wise, has been relatively efficient, but hasn't necessarily had the volume. If I'm (head coach) Matt LaFleur and I got Micah Parsons on the other side, I'm chucking the heavens out of the football this season and saying, 'Be aggressive.' This is a quarterback that has all the physical ability to get it done."

One area where Love and the Packers have struggled, particularly last season, is getting off to a hot start. Green Bay went 2-2 over its first four games in 2024 and did not have Love for two of them after he suffered a left MCL sprain in the season opener against the Eagles in Brazil.
The Packers are set to face the Detroit Lions on Sunday to kick off the 2025 season (4:25 p.m. ET, CBS). Green Bay was swept by Detroit last year. Love had only one combined touchdown in both games against the Lions last season and was held to 60% completions or less.
While the defense continues to make changes in light of the recent Parsons trade that sent veteran defensive tackle Kenny Clark to the Dallas Cowboys, the offense is dealing with its own issues.
Wide receiver Christian Watson continues to recover from a torn right ACL in Week 18 last season, and WR Jayden Reed has been dealing with a Jones fracture in his left foot. Those injuries could pave the way for the first-round draft pick Golden to get some increased playing time as the speedy wideout begins his NFL career.
Love does have this favorable trend on his side, though. Former Packer greats Bart Starr (1961 NFL championship), Brett Favre (Super Bowl XXXI) and Aaron Rodgers (Super Bowl XLV) each won their first title in their sixth season at 27 years old. Not only is Love entering his sixth season, but he also turns 27 in November.
The talent is certainly there on both sides of the ball for Love to accomplish that same feat. If he can stay healthy, there is no reason he cannot add his name to that list and claim his first MVP along the way.
