Austin Dillon accidentally wrecks his brother in NASCAR playoff race at Gateway

Things might be a little awkward at the dinner table for Austin and Ty Dillon on Sunday evening.

During Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, contact from Austin Dillon - who is one of 16 NASCAR playoff drivers racing for a championship - sent his brother, Ty, spinning into the outside wall in turn 2.

The damage on Ty Dillon's No. 10 Chevrolet was not enough to knock him out of the race, but he did lose a lap after the incident.

The contact was not intentional, with Austin apologizing over the radio under the caution period.

Sunday not the first time brothers have clashed in NASCAR

Plenty of brothers have raced against each other throughout NASCAR history, and some of them have had their fair share of run-ins.

NASCAR on NBC analyst Jeff Burton, the brother of 2002 Daytona 500 champion Ward Burton, admitted as such on Sunday's telecast.

Perhaps the most famous incident between siblings happened at the 2007 All-Star Race between Kyle and Kurt Busch. Kyle spun in turn 1, collecting his brother and taking away any chance either driver had of winning the race and collecting the $1 million pay day that went with it.

In a 2021 interview, Kyle Busch admitted that he and Kurt did not talk for a year after the crash.
