Former NFL MVP calls out Ravens after epic collapse vs. Bills

The Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills treated us to one of the wildest games you will ever see on Sunday night.

For the Ravens, the 41-40 loss was the latest example of them finding ways to lose games despite having all the talent to succeed. When they led 40-25 with 8:37 remaining, the Bills had a win probability of as low as 1.1%.

When asked on Monday's edition of ESPN's "First Take," former MVP QB Cam Newton was asked if the shocking finish was more about a Bills comeback or a Ravens collapse.

"Ravens collapse. I mean, there's things that cannot happen. Derrick Henry knows that that fumble cannot happen," Newton said. ... "When I'm looking at the stat line, (the defense allowed) 251 passing yards in the fourth quarter alone. Josh Allen had over 400 yards by himself of offense alone. There were so many people to call out and I'm not trying to deflect, but I think the Baltimore Ravens showed the world what they're capable of. They did every single thing but win the football game."

Ravens keep finding ways to lose

Ravens QB Lamar Jackson combined for three TDs while Henry went off for 169 yards and two TDs on the ground.

The defense, which on paper should be one of the top units in the league, was a huge letdown late. For the most part, it did its part through three quarters, only giving up 19 points.

That was until the fourth quarter, when Allen led a furious comeback to outscore Baltimore 22-6 in the final frame. It was a shocking turn of events that culminated with two TDs and the game-winning field goal, all within the last four minutes of the game.

Let's not discredit what Allen did at all. His 394 passing yards and four total TDs were simply incredible, making a strong MVP case for himself after just one game. He also put those numbers up with lesser talent around him, proving how he can take over a game and put his team on his back.

The blown loss also follows Baltimore's divisional round loss to Buffalo back in January, once again failing to deliver in a big moment. It should be expected that these two teams will be around in the postseason with the potential to face each other one more time with even more stakes on the line.

Baltimore will likely be fine, but it has to find a way to win these games. If it is going to respond and finally reach the Super Bowl for the first time with Jackson under center, it cannot commit any late-game turnovers like Henry did, and its defense cannot give up 497 yards of offense.

The good news for the Ravens is that it is just one game, but as talented as this team is, it should not be in this position. At some point, Baltimore has to put everything together and win meaningful games, or it will be the same story once again by season's end.
