Three wide receivers who will bounce back in Week 2

Even after a full offseason of preparations, things often don't go as planned for most NFL offenses in Week 1.

The Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens may have made it look easy on "Sunday Night Football," but most of the league's offensive juggernauts struggled to put up points in their season openers.

As a result, several of football's top receivers weren't able to make much of an impact. Whether due to game script or underwhelming quarterback play, there were some surprising duds across the league this weekend.

The door is open for a return to the mean, though, an opportunity a handful of Pro Bowlers should be able to take advantage of.

After rough outings in Week 1, here are three wide receivers who can bounce back in plus-matchups in Week 2.

Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals

Week 1: Three catches, 33 yards

As disappointing as the Cleveland Browns offense continues to be, the team still boasts a quality defense. Their defensive unit showed out in a close 17-16 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, who have consistently struggled to make a Week 1 statement in recent years.

Despite possessing arguably the NFL's top receiving duo, Joe Burrow failed to produce anything against the Browns' stout D-line. The Bengals captain posted just 113 passing yards, leaving both Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins with lackluster final stat lines.

Burrow should have more success against a Jacksonville Jaguars squad that had a much easier task containing quarterback Bryce Young in Week 1.

Chase, the superstar that he is, is an obvious choice to return to prominence next week. But in a contest that could quickly become a shootout, there should be enough offensive fireworks for Higgins to make a big impact as well.

Amon-Ra St. Brown, Detroit Lions

Week 1: Four catches, 45 yards

The Detroit Lions offense was similarly swallowed up by the Green Bay Packers. Unlike the Bengals, though, Detroit wasn't even able to muster a touchdown until the game was out of hand.

The Lions' top names disappointed across the board in the team's season opener as the Packers had little issue getting to Jared Goff. Only tight end Sam LaPorta managed a respectable line in a contest Detroit was playing catch-up in from the jump.

Usually near the top of the league in receptions, Amon-Ra St. Brown hauled in just four catches, none of them for more than 19 yards.

St. Brown should have an easier time getting involved against the Chicago Bears, though, who were ripped apart by J.J. McCarthy in his first career start, in Week 2.

Brian Thomas Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars

Week 1: One catch, 11 yards; One carry, nine yards, TD

Brian Thomas entered the season as the clear top receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he certainly didn't operate like one in the team's first bout against the Carolina Panthers.

Thomas didn't contribute much outside of rushing score late in the first half. He didn't need to, though. The Jags controlled the game throughout, riding on Travis Etienne's impressive showing throughout the second half.

Thomas, like Higgins, will benefit from what should be a high-scoring affair in Cincinnati. In a game that will almost certainly require more from quarterback Trevor Lawrence, Thomas should have every opportunity to assert himself in Week 2.
