'You got to': Micah Parsons reveals unique challenge he's facing with Packers

New Green Bay Packers defensive end Micah Parsons understands he is facing a different kind of challenge this season after being traded from the Dallas Cowboys after training camp.

Parsons told the media on Tuesday that he knows he has to earn the respect of his teammates on the fly after missing the chance to form with the Packers in training camp.

"You know, it's hard to come into a team where they've had a training campaign," Parsons said, via video from The Athletic's Matt Schneidman. They said, 'These are guys and everyone, this is the starter, and this is a starter, 'and you kind of form those relationships to come in... You got to earn guys respect, not because of your pockets, because of what you acquire on the field."

Parsons had a quiet day on the stat sheet in Week 1 until he recorded a sack of Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff in the Packers' 27-13 win on Sunday.

While Parsons exited the game with one total tackle, his impact was felt on the entire defense, as he drew the focus of Detroit's offensive line and was double-teamed throughout the game.

Parsons said his goal is to prove to his new teammates that he's not just in Green Bay for $47 million per year. He wants to win respect by making plays on the field.

"And you know, because you know you can, you can pay a guy a lot of money and not be worth anything," Parsons said. "So I think for me, the most important thing is to prove what I work on the field and as a teammate so that way I can win these guys, respect."

Parsons has a chance to show his teammates what he's about when the Packers host the Washington Commanders on Thursday night. Green Bay's defense will be tasked with keeping the 2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, Jayden Daniels, in check.
