The Pittsburgh Steelers had a lot of noise surrounding their receiving corps entering the first week of the 2025 NFL regular season. Everyone understood that DK Metcalf would be the top target, but it was Calvin Austin III who made his presence known against the New York Jets in Week 1. The fourth-year pass-catcher hauled in four catches for 70 yards and a touchdown in the 34-32 victory. Despite his strong performance, rumors began to swirl yet again that the organization could potentially be interested in trading for a disgruntled star on the Miami Dolphins: Tyreek Hill.
Hill was not happy after the Dolphins season ended in 2024, and many speculated that he would be traded during the offseason. He ended up apologizing after what was looked at a pretty hectic month or so to begin the offseason. Miami had, arguably, the worst performance of any team in Week 1, so there is a reason why speculation surrounding Hill's potential availability is picking up.
If, for some reason, the Steelers do inquire about Hill, it is interesting to theorize about what the asking price would be. The wideout is technically under contract through the 2026 campaign, but teams will argue that acquiring him comes with big risk. Legendary insider in Miami, Armando Salguero, joined "The PM Team W/Poni & Mueller" on Tuesday and gave what he believes will be the ask of the Dolphins if the decision is made to give Hill up.
"So, if he's moved, you know, a fourth," Salguero said. "A late third, a fourth, a fifth. Have to understand that [2026] is the last year of his contract."
The Steelers have a strong trade history with the Dolphins. Most recently, fans saw that back in June when a blockbuster deal was made that brought both Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith to Pittsburgh, while Minkah Fitzpatrick found his way back to Miami. It's safe to say that the Steel City is being considered the winner of the deal early on.
Omar Khan wins again. The trade for Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith arguably won the Steelers this game.

With Pittsburgh currently projected to have over 10 selections in the 2026 NFL Draft, the capital is certainly available to make a move if need be. General manager Omar Khan has shown that he will leave no stone unturned when it comes to making the roster better. Depending on how September goes, the Steelers could have some interest if the veteran wideout is put on the trade block.
Austin's Week 1 performance should indicate that Pittsburgh will not be in any kind of rush to trade for someone like Hill. The locker room seems to be in a good place following one week of the regular season, so bringing in someone like Hill, who has a reputation of being a distraction, could disrupt some of the rapport that has already been built on the 2025 Steelers.
The goal, at the end of the day, is to make a run at winning a Super Bowl. If Khan truly believes that giving away a pick on day three of the 2026 NFL Draft is worth it, no one should be surprised if Hill is wearing the black and gold by the time the playoffs begin. There will certainly be a lot of eyes on the Dolphins as the organization continues to play football games.
Head coach Mike Tomlin has a reputation for controlling potentially toxic personalities, and Hill fits that description. If Pittsburgh is going to reach out to Miami, Tomlin will have to approve the idea in the first place. If the wide receiver were to be acquired, get to work and keep his head down, it could be a massive win for the Steel City. It doesn't seem like he will come at too much of a cost, either.
