Dolphins' Tyreek Hill linked with AFC team after Week 1 debacle

Almost immediately after the Miami Dolphins' 33-8 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, reporters and analysts suggested that the team could soon ship wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs need a wideout, and Hill played for KC from 2016 until he was traded to Miami following the 2021 season.

However, NFL insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported on Monday that "there’s already chatter" hinting that the Pittsburgh Steelers could look into acquiring Hill.

Why the Steelers are a possible landing spot for Tyreek Hill

"Yes, Pittsburgh already has receiver DK Metcalf, who’s making $30M per year on a five-year deal. But the Steelers don’t have a clear-cut No. 2. Hill would be 1b (if not, at times, 1a) to Metcalf," Florio explained. "Why wouldn’t quarterback Aaron Rodgers want Hill? The more potent weapons that Rodgers has at his disposal, the better his first year in Pittsburgh will go."

The Steelers went all-in on the 2025 season as soon as head coach Mike Tomlin decided that he wanted the 41-year-old Rodgers to be his QB1. Meanwhile, questions about the relationship between Hill and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa have hovered over the Dolphins since the five-time All-Pro subbed himself out of the club's 2024 regular-season finale and then told reporters that he was "out."

Why Dolphins may move on from Tyreek Hill before trade deadline

"Although Hill is signed through 2026, he’s due to make $36M next year — with a cap number of $51.89M. It’s highly unlikely he’ll be back after 2025," Florio wrote about why the Dolphins may consider accepting a third-round draft pick for Hill's services.

Additionally, Dolphins ownership could consider a franchise reset, potentially parting ways with both Tagovailoa and head coach Mike McDaniel in the offseason. Meanwhile, Rodgers seemed to turn back the clock when he passed for 244 yards and four touchdowns in Pittsburgh's 34-32 win at the New York Jets in Week 1.

Rodgers wants to finish his career "the right way" with the Steelers, which likely means he's looking to do more than simply participate before he rides off into the sunset.

Thus, the Steelers, who haven't won a playoff game since 2016, renting Hill for even half a season could prove to be a worthwhile investment.
