Angel Reese may have potentially played her final game for the Chicago Sky.
The Sky could attempt to trade their star forward Reese this offseason, Ashish Mathur of DallasHoopsJournal.com reported on Wednesday. Mathur notes that Chicago players, coaches and higher-ups are not happy with Reese over her recent public remarks blasting the team.
Additionally, multiple WNBA rivals will reportedly pursue a trade for Reese in the offseason.
The 23-year-old Reese, who is in her second year with the Sky, is having a nice individual season with 14.7 points, 12.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game (good enough for her second career WNBA All-Star team). But Chicago is in the toilet right now at a hapless 10-33, and Reese has recently made her displeasure very clear.
During an interview last week, Reese cast doubt over her future with the Sky and even called out multiple figures by name, including teammates and head coach Tyler Marsh. Reese ultimately ended up getting suspended by Chicago over her remarks. She apologized for her comments, but she shouldn't have.
Even after serving the suspension, though, Reese still has not returned to the lineup for the Sky due to a cited back injury. With Chicago only having one regular season game remaining (against the New York Liberty on Thursday), Reese’s year appears to be all but over.
Reese is still technically under contract with the Sky through 2027. But multiple other Chicago stars (Elena Delle Donne, Marina Mabrey, Kahleah Copper, etc.) have already successfully forced trades from the team in recent years. With the Sky regularly being named as a dysfunctional organization, Reese might just be next to dip.
