Dolphins considering making big changes to key position before Patriots showdown

Injuries have forced the Miami Dolphins to consider making serious changes to an offensive line that struggled in their 33-8 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1.

Per Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Miami is set to have a new right side of the offensive line due to injuries to James Daniels (pectoral) and Austin Jackson (toe).

"Trending like the Dolphins will have a new right side of the offensive line for Week 2 against the Patriots," Jones posted on X. "Kion Smith is in line to start at RG in place of James Daniels (on IR) and Larry Borom looks to start at RT with Austin Jackson injured."

Smith played in 44 snaps for the Dolphins against the Colts. Pro Football Focus graded Smith 52.0 overall for his play in Week 1. He gave up one hit and one pressure on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Borom played 10 snaps against Indianapolis, earning a 76.6 overall grade from PFF.

Miami Dolphins have a tall task in Week 2

The Dolphins offensive line as a unit needs to improve before the matchup against the New England Patriots in Week 2. Tagovailoa was sacked three times for -13 yards in the blowout loss in Week 1. Miami gained 78 yards on 12 carries in the running game, but it wasn't able to stick to the run after trailing 20-0 at halftime.

Things won't be easier against a formidable front seven in Week 2. The Patriots defensive line had an impressive Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders, sacking Geno Smith four times for -29 yards and giving up just 56 rushing yards on 24 carries. New England edge-rusher Harold Landry III will be a player the Dolphins offense needs to focus on for Week 2, as the veteran pass-rusher recorded 2.5 sacks on Sunday.
