Giants WR makes bold guarantee after Week 1 disappearing act

New York Giants wide receiver Jalin Hyatt surprisingly played zero snaps in the club's 21-6 Week 1 loss to the Washington Commanders.

Nevertheless, Hyatt remains confident he will emerge as a key contributor for the club as the 2025 season progresses.

Jalin Hyatt shares vow for 2025 season

"I’ve always been hard on myself," Hyatt explained during a conversation with Darryl Slater of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com. "But now, it’s like: 'OK, what are we going to do with it? How are we going to fight adversity?’ You’ve got to be real with yourself. I feel like if you’re not real with yourself, you’re fake to yourself. This is a league where you’ve got to make plays consistently. That’s something that I need to do. That’s just being real. I’m just ready for my chance, whenever it is. It will be this year. And I will be on that field."

Hyatt has been one of the most disappointing draft picks made by Giants general manager Joe Schoen since 2022. A 2023 third-round choice, Hyatt recorded just 23 receptions for 373 yards as a rookie. He then tallied eight catches on 19 targets for 62 yards last season.

The 23-year-old is still searching for his first regular-season touchdown.

"It was a little surprising," Hyatt said about getting no snaps against the Commanders. "But that’s maybe how the game was going. I can’t really dwell on that. I can’t really let that bring me down. It’s a long season."

Does Jalin Hyatt feel he has a future with the Giants?

Hyatt became the subject of trade rumors during the offseason before he discovered a new "confidence" while working with current Giants starting quarterback Russell Wilson. Wilson completed 17-of-37 passes for 168 yards against the Commanders, and he could soon lose the QB1 job to promising rookie Jaxson Dart.

Meanwhile, Hyatt insisted that the fact he's still on the Big Blue roster shows that "they want me here" and still have "a lot of respect" regarding what he can offer an offense that failed to impress at Washington's Northwest Stadium.

"I do," Hyatt responded when asked if he feels he will have a role in New York's passing attack. "Sooner or later, we’ll find out what it is. But I can’t dwell on no snaps, 100 snaps or whatever it is. For me, it’s: Get into the film room and be ready for this week."

It remains to be seen how much Hyatt will play, if at all, when the Giants face the 0-1 Dallas Cowboys on the road in Week 2 on Sunday.
