Brian Schottenheimer earned his first victory as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, and his players made sure to give him credit after the game.
The Cowboys beat the NFC East rival New York Giants in a 40-37 overtime thriller at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. It looked like Dallas was going to fall to 0-2 after Russell Wilson gave the Giants a lead with 25 seconds remaining in regulation by throwing a 45-yard touchdown pass to Malik Nabers, but Dallas kicker Brandon Aubrey had other plans.
Aubrey drilled a 64-yard field goal as time expired in the fourth quarter. He then connected from 46 yards in OT to lift the Cowboys to victory.
Following the game, Dak Prescott presented Schottenheimer with a game ball to commemorate the coach's first career win. Schottenheimer looked like he was fighting back tears as Cowboys players and team owner Jerry Jones rallied around him.

Schottenheimer, who had been an assistant coach in the NFL and college for nearly two decades before being hired as head coach of the Cowboys, has been open about his short-term goal, and that is to win a Super Bowl.
The 51-year-old coach has spoken about how anything shy of a championship would be a failure for him in Dallas. He said after last week's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles that his goal had not changed.
By getting into the win column, Schottenheimer successfully avoided all of the premature panic that would have accompanied a 0-2 start. He will now begin preparing the Cowboys for a tough Week 3 road game against the Chicago Bears.
