Many people wish they had the job security of Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel.
Not only are the Dolphins 0-3 following Thursday's 31-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills, but a recent report about the team's cultural issues emerged . This included the coach failing to hold star players accountable for arriving late to meetings, except by posting fines. Despite that, Miami owner Stephen Ross isn't planning to move on from him.

"Here is my understanding of where it all stands. Stephen Ross, the Dolphins owner, plans to be patient," NFL Media's Ian Rapoport said Sunday on "NFL GameDay." "I do not sense anything imminent regarding a potential change in Mike McDaniel's job status. Mostly because Stephen Ross likes him and believes in him and has invested in him."
In August 2024, the Dolphins signed McDaniel to a contract extension through 2028. While the club has committed to the coach, things could change if he continues to lose control of the locker room.
"Keep an eye on the locker room," Rapoport said. "If players suddenly stop playing for him, if that becomes a thing where you look on the field and say these players do not believe in their coach, perhaps that could trigger some change."
Through three weeks, it looks like the Dolphins could be close to reaching that point.
The Dolphins hired McDaniel before the 2022 season, and he got off to a fast start. The coach guided Miami to the playoffs during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Since then, the club has regressed. In 2024, Miami finished 8-9, missing the playoffs.
It wouldn't be surprising if the Dolphins fail to reach the postseason again after the 0-3 start. Entering Sunday's games, they ranked 25th in the league in points scored (18.7) and second-to-last in points allowed (32.3). Ross is patient. But if the Dolphins continue to underperform and McDaniel starts to lose his players, the owner will grow impatient.
