'SNF' takeaways: Chiefs overcome slow start to down dismal Giants

It was an ugly affair on "Sunday Night Football" as the Kansas City Chiefs pulled away in the second half to take down the winless New York Giants, 22-9, and get their first victory of the season.

Here are four takeaways from Sunday's nightcap:

Chiefs finally get in the win column

It may not have been the most exciting way to win a game, but the Chiefs were too much for the dismal Giants offense on Sunday night. Led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who went 22-of-37 for 224 yards and a TD and made some key throws in the second half, Kansas City was no match for the Giants.

The Chiefs defense was sensational with two takeaways, two sacks and only 281 yards allowed. This is still a team that is by no means where it needs to be at this point, but Kansas City at least came away with a win it was expected to before a tough upcoming stretch that begins with the Baltimore Ravens next week.

It's time to give Jaxson Dart a shot

Giants QB Russell Wilson went off for 450 passing yards and three TDs in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys. In the first half of Sunday night's game, Wilson was 7-of-13 for 39 yards and two interceptions, leading to the Giants faithful chanting, "We want Dart," referring to the 25th overall pick from Ole Miss.

Considering how bad the Cowboys have been defensively and the lack of production outside of that game for Wilson, there is no reason for Dart not to get more playing time, especially after it was reported that he could be utilized in the red zone on Sunday night. That did not happen as fans continue to grow impatient with head coach Brian Daboll and a dismal Giants offense under Wilson.

Tyquan Thornton steps up in a big way for Chiefs

It is no secret that Kansas City is shorthanded at the receiver position with Xavier Worthy (dislocated right shoulder) and Rashee Rice (suspension) out of action, leaving limited opportunities down the field for Mahomes.

Enter Thornton, who had five catches for 71 yards and a TD. He also made this spectacular grab to set up a TD run from RB Kareem Hunt on the next play.

With tight end Travis Kelce continuing to struggle and offensive line concerns entering the game, the Chiefs will certainly take a performance like they got from Thornton as they look to overcome a slow start to the season.

Cameron Skattebo carries Giants offense

After scoring his first NFL TD one week ago against the Cowboys, Scattebo stepped into a bigger role on Sunday night after running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. exited with a right shoulder injury.

He immediately made an impact from the beginning and punched in New York's lone TD of the game.

Skattebo had 10 carries for 60 yards and a TD on the ground, plus an additional 61 receiving yards. On a night that Giants kicker Graham Gano battled through a groin injury and was limited, Skattebo provided a spark to an otherwise lackluster offense that was counted on even more.
