Did Giants HC Brian Daboll make a mistake with timing of QB change?

The New York Giants finally made the switch at quarterback this week after starting Russell Wilson in the first three weeks. Rookie Jaxson Dart will make his regular-season debut against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

It won't be an easy debut for Dart to face the Chargers defense. Per Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Giants considered making the change at quarterback before their Week 2 contest against the Dallas Cowboys, which would have been a more favorable start for Dart than Los Angeles.

"The Giants actually considered turning to Jaxson Dart after their Week 1 loss to the Commanders, but they instead stuck with Russell Wilson, who had a vintage performance against the Dallas Cowboys," Russini wrote. "Wilson kept his job, but it was just one epic showing before he fizzled against the Chiefs."

Should Brian Daboll have started Jaxson Dart in Week 2?

The issues with the Cowboys defense have been a major storyline in the league since owner Jerry Jones traded defensive end Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. Without a good pass rush, Dallas secondary has been unable to keep receivers in check.

Wilson had a big game against the Cowboys in Week 2. Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams threw for four touchdowns and earned NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for his play against Dallas in Week 3.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll would have been wise to make the change in Week 2 so Dart could have an easier matchup in his first NFL start and gain confidence before attacking tougher defenses. Now, Dart will go against one of the hottest defensive coordinators in the league, Jesse Minter, on Sunday.

The Chargers defense is giving up just 16.7 points per game, and they've faced quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Geno Smith and Bo Nix.
