Giants make quarterback decision for Chargers game

On Monday, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll hinted that he was set to make a quarterback change after the team's 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on "Sunday Night Football."

Per Mike Garofolo of the NFL Network, Daboll informed Russell Wilson on Tuesday that Jaxson Dart will be the starter for the Giants' Week 4 contest against the Los Angeles Chargers.

"Every step along the way Jaxson Dart has shown the Giants he can handle it," Garofolo posted on X. "Sunday is a big test against the Chargers ’ defense but they’re ready to turn it over to him. Brian Daboll informed Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart just now of the change. Away they go with the Dart era."

Dart's test won't be easy, as he'll be going against Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, already a hot name in league circles to become a head coach in the next hiring cycle.

The New York Giants hinted a change was coming

During his news conference with reporters on Monday, Daboll said he'd need to review tape before naming a starting quarterback for Week 4. He said the passing game was the top thing missing during the Giants' loss to the Chiefs.

"Like I said yesterday, in order to improve the passing game, and I'd say that was the number one thing we need to improve from yesterday," Daboll said, via SNY Giants, "everybody's got to be doing exactly the right stuff. So it's not all one guy. There's multiple reasons why."

Wilson went 18-of-32 passing for 160 yards and two interceptions against Kansas City.

The Giants had faith in Dart when they traded back into the first round to take the Ole Miss standout with the No. 25 pick. Dart went 32-of-47 passing for 372 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions during the preseason.
