Eagles have two of the NFL's best young CBs leading their defense

As the NFL heads into Week 5 of the regular season, the Buffalo Bills and the Philadelphia Eagles  remain the only undefeated teams at 4-0. Unsurprisingly, the reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles have one of the most well-rounded rosters in the NFL — especially at cornerback — with young stars Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell leading the way.

Pro Football Focus gave DeJean and Mitchell an 88.9 for their coverage grade, while the pair had a collective eight forced interceptions between them, with DeJean having three and Mitchell having five.

Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell lead a solid Eagles defense

Although the Eagles' defense isn’t the same as it was in 2024, when they ranked first in total defense, passing defense and 10th in rushing defense, they have done their job this season.

The Eagles' defense, under one of the NFL's best defensive coordinators, Vic Fangio, was labeled as the roster's biggest strength by Pro Football Focus heading into the season. They’ve proven that by not allowing any team to score 30 points against them.

Philadelphia has one of the better redzone defenses, having a 44.4% touchdown rate against them. Special teams have also done their part, blocking two field goals and a punt.

The defense needs to do its job while the offense figures things out

Since the defense and special teams are doing their jobs, the Eagles need to figure out how to fix their offense to make them a more complete team.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts has shown what he can do, which hasn’t gone well for teams when forcing him to step up in the pocket. Hurts has nine total touchdowns, with four rushing and five passing, with an average of 4.4 yards rushing.

The Eagles have yet to figure out their passing game, which has left star wide receiver A.J. Brown appearing disgruntled. Brown’s frustration is understandable, as he only has 151 yards and one touchdown on 14 receptions this season. However, he will get his targets, and the ultimate goal remains defending their Super Bowl title.
