The firestorm from Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown's viral post after Sunday's 31-25 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is starting to heat up.
Brown had a bad day at the office as he had only two receptions for seven yards on nine targets in the win. After the game, everyone knew something was going to happen with Brown, and it sure did when he posted a quote that said the following: "If you're not welcomed, not listened to, quietly withdraw. Don't make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way."
That firestorm just became something worse. Everyone now believes he wants out, but for Brown, it was a subtle message calling out the organization as he just wants the ball. He's clearly not happy with his role, and those within the Eagles media are not happy with his response.
While appearing on 94 WIP, former Eagle and current broadcaster Seth Joyner did not shy away from sharing his thoughts on the Brown situation. Joyner gave some words of wisdom to the wide receiver.
"I think A.J. needs to stop posting things like he posted yesterday (Sunday) and draw his strength from his faith that he proclaims, openly...In life not only in sports everybody is going to go through something. When I was out spoken, I was out of control…That kind of thing does nothing more than to separate a team…It doesn’t make any sense. It’s not going to accomplish anything. You're not going anywhere. The team is not going anywhere. And you understand you just came off a Super Bowl win...Things aren't always going to go the way you want them to go. You have to just deal with the tough times in order to get to the good times."
Plenty in the media chimed in on their thoughts throughout the day, which forced Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni's hand in addressing the situation. While he didn't go into specifics with the media, Sirianni did speak with Brown and said that he believes his wide receiver is committed to playing in Philadelphia.
Through four games this season, Brown has caught 14 passes for 151 yards and one touchdown. He's on pace to have statistically the worst season of his career.
This type of start to the season is not something Brown is accustomed to feeling. Since joining the Eagles, he's had three consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns in a year. He's also made the Pro Bowl twice and has been either a first or second-team All-Pro three straight seasons.
It's easy to understand the frustration, but everyone on the offense is feeling the same way with the struggles. The true strength of this organization will be revealed in the next few weeks, at 4-0, to see whether they can maintain their winning streak or crumble due to personal feelings.
