Lavonte David makes curious claim about Buccaneers' loss to Eagles

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers trailed the Philadelphia Eagles for nearly all of this past Sunday's game at Tampa Bay's Raymond James Stadium that the Eagles won, 31-25.

During a Monday night appearance on the Buccaneers Radio Network, Tampa Bay veteran linebacker Lavonte David gave his opinion of what went wrong for the hosts during their Week 4 matchup.

Did Buccaneers lack focus in first half of Eagles game?

"I could probably say the focus was down in the first half," David said about what occurred in the opening two quarters of the Buccaneers-Eagles game, per the JoeBucsFan website. "The energy was low in the first half. You know, we wasn’t locked in how we normally should be locked."

David's take is odd for multiple reasons. Both the Buccaneers and Eagles were unbeaten heading into the game, and one would think the Tampa Bay players would've been hyped about having an opportunity to topple the defending Super Bowl champions. Meanwhile, the Eagles hardly looked like a dominant side as they escaped their Week 3 contest versus the Los Angeles Rams with a win thanks to a blocked field goal as time expired.

That said, the Eagles struck with a big blow early when they blocked a Tampa Bay punt and then returned the ball for a touchdown with 12:51 remaining in the first quarter. Philadelphia ultimately took a 24-6 lead into halftime before the Buccaneers' defense found the energy it apparently lacked in the first half.

Buccaneers made "adjustments" after rough first half vs. Eagles

As Zach Berman of The Athletic noted, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts did not complete a pass in the second half of Sunday's encounter. While the Tampa Bay defense generated five three-and-out drives after the halftime break, the Bucs nevertheless fell to 3-1 on the season.

"Second half, we made a couple adjustments," David explained on Monday night. "It seemed like their game plan was to try to just, you know, get the ball out of Jalen Hurts' hands quick, and then he was just taking whatever he could take with running the football and stuff like that. And the second half, we was just able to just hone in and lock in on what they were trying to do, and take away the quick passing game."

David and Co. will look to avoid a sluggish start when Tampa Bay plays at the 3-1 Seattle Seahawks this coming Sunday. As of Tuesday afternoon, ESPN BET had the Buccaneers as 3.5-point road underdogs for that game.
