Carson Beck 'appreciative' of Georgia, but his transfer worked out for Miami

Quarterback Carson Beck is lighting it up with the Miami Hurricanes, but there was a time not too long ago that when you thought of Beck, you thought of the Georgia Bulldogs.

He was a four-star recruit coming out of Jacksonville, Florida, ranked as the No. 5 pro-style quarterback in the 2020 class, according to 247Sports. He committed to Georgia and then spent the next five seasons with the Bulldogs, including two as the team's starter.

An opportunity to transfer to Miami arose this past offseason as he was recovering from a UCL injury that he suffered in the SEC Championship Game. He reportedly earned at least $4 million in NIL money after transferring while also joining his then-girlfriend Hanna Cavinder, a Miami women's basketball player.

Beck took a chance, and it's worked out well so far for both him and the Hurricanes. He did recently relay a message to the Bulldogs, though. Things happened fast, but he was always appreciative of his time in Athens. 

“The ending was tough because it obviously wasn’t a part of my plan,” Beck said on the "I Am Athlete" podcast (h/t On3). “Like, I never wanted it to end that way. I didn’t want to go down in the SEC Championship Game, get injured and then ultimately end up making the decision to go elsewhere.

“Hard-fought wins, hard-fought losses, right? The work that we put in there, it’s second to none. I’m so thankful and appreciative just to have the support system that I did have there. I mean, lifelong friends that I’ll have for the rest of my life.”
