The 'MLB playoff single-game strikeout record' quiz

To say the Detroit Tigers limped into the 2025 playoffs would be a massive understatement, but behind their Cy Young-candidate Tarik Skubal, are one game away from the ALDS.

Skubal was involved in a scary incident in Cleveland in his final start of the regular season, when he hit David Fry in the face with a fastball. He was understandably rattled, responding with a wild pitch and a balk immediately following Fry being carted off the diamond. He showed none of those nerves in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card, striking out 14 Guardians over 7 ⅔ innings to tie a Detroit Tigers postseason record. Detroit needed every single pitch from their ace, winning Game 1 just 2-1 over the team that clawed out of a 15.5-game hole to take the American League Central title from the Tigers.

Which brings us to today’s quiz. An MLB pitcher has struck out at least 12 batters in a playoff game on 44 occasions. With that being said, how many of those pitchers can you name in six minutes?

Good luck!
