The Miami Dolphins offense suffered a big blow after Tyreek Hill suffered a dislocated knee in their 27-21 win on "Monday Night Football" over the New York Jets.
Per Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Miami is expected to release Hill in the offseason, as it's not clear if the star wide receiver will be ready to return by Week 1 of the 2026 season.
"But sources have cast doubt on such a speedy return from such a devastating injury even if another surgery ultimately isn't needed," Jones wrote.
The Dolphins would save $29.9 million in cap space by releasing Hill next season. Because Hill is due an $11 million guaranteed salary and $5 million roster bonus on the third day of the 2026 league year, Miami would have to give the wide receiver $16 million if he's still on the roster by March 14.
It would be one thing for the Dolphins to pay that money to Hill if they thought he was committed to the team and was healthy to play a full season in 2026. But that's a stretch due to the complicated nature of Hill's injury.
"League sources view it as next to impossible the Dolphins would guarantee such money when Hill won't be able to pass a physical at that point, meaning Miami would release the receiver before any 2026 dollar becomes guaranteed," Jones wrote.
During his four years in Miami, Hill has recorded 340 receptions for 4,733 yards and 27 touchdowns. Hill, 31, is an eight-time Pro Bowl nominee. The only year in his career that he didn't make the Pro Bowl was in 2024.
