Ohio State flips recruit, adds to strong O-Line class

You can't ever have enough big people upfront when you're trying to compete for championships in college football, and that's something the Ohio State Buckeyes know well.

You tend to think of wide receivers and quarterbacks when you think about the Buckeyes' top offensive players over the years, but none of those skill players can do anything without a strong offensive line.

More often than not, Ohio State always boasts a strong offensive line.

That trend seems to be continuing as far as Ohio State's 2026 recruiting class is concerned. The Buckeyes already boasted a nice group of offensive linemen, but that haul got even better on Monday with the addition of 3-star offensive tackle Landy Brede.

Brede, from Mentor, Ohio, flipped his commitment from NC State to Ohio State.

Ohio State Buckeyes flip in-state offensive tackle Landy Brede

This was a flip a long time coming for the Buckeyes. Brede is in their own backyard, but he didn't receive an offer from OSU until early September.

Before that, he had taken official visits to North Carolina, Pitt and NC State, and he committed to the Wolfpack on June 25.

NC State looked to be set to bring Brede in, but then the Buckeyes offered the 6-foot-5, 280-pound three-star, which led to visits from Brede for Ohio State wins over Ohio and Minnesota.

Mentor is two-and-a-half hours northeast of Columbus, so Brede obviously grew up with a strong connection to Ohio State.

Ultimately, despite the commitment to NC State, the call of the Buckeyes was too much to withstand, and that's how we got to this flip.

"I have grown up in Ohio my whole life and watched Ohio State since I was little," Brede told Bucknuts.  "I've been interested in Ohio State for a long time. Ohio State has a lot of great things."

Brede is ranked as the No. 91 offensive tackle in the 2026 class and the No. 48 recruit from the state of Ohio, according to the 247Sports Composite.

He's Ohio State's fifth 2026 offensive line commitment, which is a group headlined by 6-foot-8, 315-pound four-star offensive tackle Sam Greer.
