Eagles' Nick Sirianni addresses worries about 2023 repeat after concerning report

A recent report revealed that there is a "concern" among some Philadelphia Eagles players that the club's current season "is starting to feel like the 2023 meltdown all over again," when the Eagles went from 10-1 to 11-6 before they suffered a blowout loss in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni addressed what's gone wrong for his team that dropped back-to-back games to fall to 4-2 this season.

Nick Sirianni is "thankful for" Eagles' 2023 collapse

"...Adversities are going to happen," Sirianni explained, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. "They happen for every team in the NFL. They happen for every team. They happen for every person. You think back on your old experiences. You look back at adversities that we’ve had. I’m thankful for those. Obviously, this is a new year and new things, but I’m thankful for '23. I’m thankful for how '24 started off because it put us in a position to do what we ultimately wanted to accomplish, our goal last year. That is a mindset that is really critical to have, that adversities that you go through make you stronger if you allow it to."

The 2024 Eagles entered their bye week at 2-2 before they used that break as an opportunity to right the ship. Philadelphia ultimately entered the playoffs at 14-3 and then finished its spectacular run with a dominant 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

That said, it's clear that members of the Eagles are frustrated with the offense's lackluster play this fall. Some think Philadelphia could part ways with disgruntled wide receiver A.J. Brown if he causes headaches for the club before the Nov. 4 trade deadline arrives.

What Nick Sirianni told players after Week 6 loss to Giants

Also on Wednesday, Eagles wide receiver Jahan Dotson revealed the messages that Sirianni has delivered to the team coming off its surprising 34-17 loss at the New York Giants (2-4) in Week 6.

"Nick was addressing the team, really focusing in on the fundamentals of the game, which is protecting the ball, playing with good effort, just kind of getting our swagger back," Dotson told Cayden Steele of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com. "He hit the nail on the head. That’s what we got to do. We have enough talent in this room to win a lot of games, but if we take care of the ball, get back to creating explosive plays for the offense, we’re going to be a really hard team to beat. And that was kind of the message. Let’s get back to the fundamentals of the game, and don’t forget who we are."

The Eagles will try to show who they truly are when they play at the Minnesota Vikings (3-2) on Sunday. As of Thursday morning, ESPN BET had Philadelphia as a 1.5-point road favorite for that matchup.
