Following the Philadelphia Eagles' 21-17 home loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 5 of the season, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni acknowledged that wide receiver A.J. Brown, quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley "had a long, positive conversation" that "lasted a couple hours."
After the Eagles fell to 4-2 on the campaign via a surprising 34-17 defeat at the New York Giants (2-4) on Thursday, Brown made an odd comment about the alleged meeting.
"I don't recall a meeting," Brown explained, per Joe Rivera of USA Today. "I don't know what you're talking about. No – you need to talk to them. I don't recall. I don't recall."
Much was made about the lackluster play of the Philadelphia offense over the campaign's first five weeks. After the Giants jumped out to a 13-3 lead on Thursday night, the Eagles responded with a pair of touchdown drives that indicated the reigning Super Bowl champions may have been righting the ship.
However, the Eagles didn't find the end zone again through the remainder of the contest. In the game's fourth quarter, Hurts tossed a costly red-zone interception when Brown seemed to be open for a potential touchdown.
Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson didn't hold back when speaking about the fact that Philadelphia was shut out in the second half of Thursday's game.
"The execution isn’t there," Johnson said, according to Cayden Steele of the NJ Advance Media for NJ.com. "We get behind the chains. We get very predictable, I think sometimes."
The Eagles will have time for some soul-searching before they have to begin preparing for their matchup at the Minnesota Vikings on Oct. 19. 3-2 Minnesota is in its bye week.
"We’re not very good right now," Johnson added, per Johnny McGonigal of PennLive. "Last year, we ran play-action and fed off each other. Defenses had a hard time guessing what it was going to be. Feel like the last two weeks, you know what it is. You know when the pass is coming. You know when the run is coming. ... We’ve got to do a better job of that."
