Low-risk, high-reward move? Desperate Commanders take chance on first-round bust Treylon Burks

A depleted wide receiver room for the Washington Commanders has led them to make an addition at wide receiver.

Practice squad addition

After Thursday's injury report revealed questions surrounding Sunday's status of star receivers Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel, Washington made an addition to its practice squad, signing former first-round pick Treylon Burks.

While he was only signed to the practice squad, Burks is expected to be elevated rather quickly and will potentially be active Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

"A low-risk, high-reward addition, Burks played in a similar offense in college," Rapoport pointed out.

Treylon Burks' NFL career

Burks was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. His tenure there was both short and disappointing, as he collected just 53 catches for 699 yards and one touchdown in three seasons.

Staying on the field was also a problem for Burks in Tennessee, as he appeared in just 27 of a possible 51 games during his time there. He was released Oct. 7 and has now landed with a new team.

New spot, better luck?

It'll be intriguing to see both how long Burks is able to stick in Washington as well as how much success he is able to have.

The Commanders are certainly hoping the 2022 first-round pick still has a bit of the ability that led to him being selected No. 18 overall just three years ago.
