Saints' Alvin Kamara attempts to take himself off trade market

With the New Orleans Saints headed for another disappointing season and the NFL trade deadline fast approaching on Nov. 4, it makes sense that they would be sellers in the coming weeks and try to accumulate future draft picks. Veteran running back Alvin Kamara would also figure to be one of their most prominent and valuable trade chips if they were to put him on the trade block.

There is just one problem with that mindset.

Kamara seems to have zero interest in being traded.

Alvin Kamara suggests he would retire if traded

Kamara has so little interest in playing for another team, that he said on Thursday he would go drink a pina colada somewhere if general manager Mickey Loomis informed him that he was being traded. That is a pretty strong suggestion that Kamara would just retire rather than play for another team.

The 30-year-old Kamara has spent his entire nine-year career with the Saints and has consistently been one of their best all-around players. Not only has he been a high-level running back, but he is also an outstanding pass-catcher out of the backfield.

The Saints have not made the playoffs since the 2020 season and are very clearly in the early stages of completely rebuilding their entire roster. They have played hard this season for first-year head coach Kellen Moore and been in some very close, competitive games, but they simply do not have enough talent and difference-makers to win more games.

They are 1-5 going into this week's game against the 3-2 Chicago Bears and are facing an extremely tough schedule in the coming weeks. Still, Kamara is determined to play for the only team he has ever known to help be a part of the solution. The fact he is willing to just give up playing — or so he suggests — rather than play anywhere else is a testament to his loyalty to New Orleans and the Saints organization.
