Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is trying to work his way back from a foot injury that sidelined him in Week 6, and some new questions have been raised about what his status will be when he returns.
The Cardinals had lost three consecutive games prior to Murray sitting out last week. Arizona's offense has struggled for much of the year, with Murray throwing for a high of 220 passing yards in his five starts. Murray has six touchdown passes compared to three interceptions on the season.
On Friday, Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort was asked if Murray will remain the starting quarterback when the 28-year-old is cleared to play. Ossenfort was surprisingly non-committal.
"I know that's always a hot discussion. ... We're going to continue to try and get Kyler where he can get back to doing the things he can do on the field. When he's doing that, he'll be out there," Ossenfort told reporters.
The response was noteworthy, as it did not exactly put any talk of a quarterback controversy to rest.

Jacoby Brissett started for Arizona in place of Murray last week. The veteran completed 27-of-44 passes for 320 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in a 31-27 road loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Marvin Harrison Jr. also exited the game early with a concussion.
The Cardinals' passing offense looked better in Week 6 than it had all season with Murray. That is noteworthy considering Arizona was playing on the road against a Colts team that is now 5-1 and has been one of the biggest surprises of the season.
Brissett is one of the most experienced backups in the NFL, and you could argue that the Cardinals were more impressive with him under center than they had been with Murray.
Murray signed a five-year, $230.5M contract extension with the Cardinals before the 2022 season. He has battled some injuries since and not looked as good as he did before landing the lucrative deal.
There have been questions about whether Arizona could move on from Murray in the near future. The Cardinals do not look like a playoff team this year, and head coach Jonathan Gannon is viewed as being on the hot seat. Murray could be as well.
Brissett is not the long-term answer at quarterback for the Cardinals, but there is a world in which he could hang onto the starting job if he plays well again in a tough Week 7 game against the Green Bay Packers.
