Commanders' star-crossed season continues with Terry McLaurin ruled out vs. Seahawks

The stars aren't aligning for the Washington Commanders in 2025.

On Wednesday, just as quarterback Jayden Daniels (hamstring) returned to practice after missing Week 8's 28-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Terry McLaurin (quad) will miss Washington's home game against the Seattle Seahawks (5-2) on "Sunday Night Football" in Week 9.

Terry McLaurin absence continues Washington's injury-plagued season

The Commanders (3-5) have struggled with the injury bug all season, preventing them from building on last year's run to the NFC Championship Game. Daniels has missed three games due to injury, while veteran wideout Noah Brown (groin), the team's second-leading returning receiver, was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 15, ending his season after just two games. Running back Austin Ekeler tore his Achilles in Week 2.

As much went right for Washington in 2024, the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction this season. Among NFC teams, only the New Orleans Saints (1-7), New York Giants (2-6) and Arizona Cardinals (2-5) have a worse record than the Commanders. Injuries have played a key role in their fall, and McLaurin's absence continues that troubling trend.

The seven-year veteran initially suffered his quad injury on Sep. 21 against the Las Vegas Raiders, forcing him to miss half of Washington's games so far this season. In four games, McLaurin has 13 receptions, 203 yards and a touchdown.

The Commanders' chances of getting back on track against the Seahawks are compromised without their best receiving option. Daniels' potential return helps, but it's mitigated by McLaurin once again being inactive.
