Steph Curry's remarkable start to the season has reached a historic level

Curry's 46-point game against the Spurs marked the 73rd time he reached 40 in his career. Even more impressive, most of Curry's 40-point outings have occurred since the Warriors icon and two-time league MVP turned 30 years old. Curry now has 43 such occurrences in his 30s. 

The only player who has ever recorded more 40-point games in his 30s? Michael Jordan, who has just one more, making it inevitable for Curry to stand alone as the all-time leader. 

With more likely to come, Curry already has two 40-point games so far this season. He also scored 42 when Golden State beat the Denver Nuggets to the tune of 137-131 on Oct. 23. 

Unfortunately for Curry, and unlike in his younger days as a leader of one of the most dominant dynasties in modern NBA history, the Warriors are barely in the playoff picture as a team. Golden State is 7-6 and the ninth seed in the Western Conference. 

Two questions will surround Curry moving forward. Can he keep up his strong play all season? And can the Warriors become a legitimate contender, giving the four-time champion one more shot at a fifth ring?
