At first glance, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's 33-point performance in the Oklahoma City Thunder's Saturday 109-96 win may seem like just another big game for the NBA's reigning MVP. However, Gilgeous-Alexander's most recent monster game actually furthered his pursuit of history.
As one of the most consistent players ever, Gilgeous-Alexander has now scored at least 20 points in 86 consecutive games. He also showed why he's the total package against Charlotte by adding four rebounds, seven assists and two steals in 29 minutes.
The 27-year-old three-time All-Star is now in a firm position of the third-longest streak with at least 20 points in NBA history. Back on Nov. 2, Gilgeous-Alexander surpassed Oscar Robertson to sit behind just one man, Wilt Chamberlain, who holds two separate streaks.
Chamberlain's league record is 126 games, spanning two years from October 19, 1961, to January 19, 1963. The legendary scorer also reached the milestone in 92-straight games from February 26, 1963, to March 18, 1964.

Gilgeous-Alexander entered the 2025-26 season having registered 20 or more points in 72 games in a row, dating back to November 1, 2024. And to further explain his dominance, Gilgeous-Alexander has actually reached 30 points in 12 of his 14 games played so far this season.
Showing no signs of slowing down, the 2025 NBA Finals MVP is averaging 32.5 points, 5.2 boards and 6.6 assists. If he keeps up his current pace, Gilgeous-Alexander will carry a scoring average of over 30 points for the fourth straight year.
But it's well documented that Gilgeous-Alexander cares about winning above all else. And if he stays at this level, the 13-1 Thunder may repeat as NBA champions, placing the budding future Hall of Famer among the all-time greats who have led a team to back-to-back championships.
