The 2025-26 NFL season has been one to forget for the Arizona Cardinals. A 41-22 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday dropped Arizona to 3-7 on the season and has it headed toward another season below .500.
There was, though, a bit of a bright spot in Sunday's loss. Veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett set an NFL record that will be tough to match in the future.
In the loss, Brissett made NFL history, completing 47 of his 57 pass attempts. Before Sunday, the previous record for completions in a game was 45, held by both Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff.
Ben Roethlisberger also completed 47 passes in a game, but it came in a postseason game, making it ineligible to qualify for history.
Only two players in NFL history have had 47 completions in a game— Jacoby Brissett today, and Ben Roethlisberger in a Wild Card game in 2021.

Despite the loss, the Cardinals offense has been much better with Brissett at the helm rather than Kyler Murray. For example, tight end Trey McBride has six touchdowns in five games with Brissett, opposed to just two in his last 21 games with Murray.
Brissett's ability to lead the Arizona offense in a way that Murray hasn't been able to could signal the end of Murray's tenure with the team that selected him No. 1 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Brissett is set to be the starter for the remainder of the season, and a promising finish could see him return to Arizona for at least one more season.
