New York Jets cornerback and special teamer Kris Boyd continues to recover after he was shot in Manhattan last weekend.
While speaking with Andy Vasquez of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com, Jets cornerback Qwan'tez Stiggers revealed that he and others in the locker room have heard from Boyd.
"He texted us in the group text and said he was good," Stiggers said about Boyd. "We’ve been praying for him each and every day."
According to reports, Boyd, Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood and wide receiver Irvin Charles were at a nightclub in Manhattan early Sunday morning when Boyd began to feel "uneasy" about the situation's "vibe." Per Bridget Hyland of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com, Boyd suffered two gunshot wounds after an altercation took place outside of the establishment.
Boyd reportedly was left with a bullet lodged in his lungs, but he shared a positive update via an Instagram story posted to his account on Wednesday.
"I’m sorry I have no words at the moment," the Story's caption read. "Just grateful! I’m coming along, starting to breathe on my own now. Sincerely appreciate everyone!"
As of Thursday, police were continuing to search for at least one suspect related to the incident.
A 2019 seventh-round draft pick, Boyd previously played for the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans before he signed a one-year deal to join the Jets in March. In August, he was placed on season-ending injured reserve due to a shoulder injury.
Understandably, Boyd's teammates aren't currently thinking about whether he will be a member of the Jets when the new league year opens in March 2026.
"It’s definitely good to hear from him," Stiggers added about Boyd. "But to see him would be way better … to finally see him and talk to him face to face, it’ll be way better."
The Jets haven't played since they lost 27-14 on "Thursday Night Football" to the rival New England Patriots on Nov. 13. 2-8 Gang Green will next face the Baltimore Ravens (5-5) at Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium this Sunday.
