AFC South race is about to get interesting after Colts loss

The Kansas City Chiefs' come-from-behind overtime win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday wasn't just important for their playoff chances, it was also important for the race in the AFC South that is about to get very interesting in the coming weeks, and the Colts need to start getting awfully concerned about the teams approaching them in the rearview mirror. Especially given their remaining schedule.

Colts have some huge — and tough — games remaining

Not only have the Colts lost two of their past three games — and barely escaped against the Atlanta Falcons — but they are about to enter a truly daunting portion of their schedule that could go a long way toward determining who wins the division.

Specifically, the Colts still have four head-to-head games remaining against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans. The outcomes of those games are going to tell us a lot about who is going to come out of the South. Both teams are within two games of the Colts in the standings, making those games especially meaningful.

But it's not just that the Colts have to play their four divisional games the rest of the way that is going to be a challenge. It is that their two remaining non-divisional games are against potential playoff teams the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers

The Colts have been one of the biggest surprises in the NFL so far, but we are about to learn how good they actually are in the coming weeks. The Colts have played a relatively soft schedule so far this season and have not beaten a lot of the NFL's top powers, owning just two wins over teams with winning records. There has also been the question of how long quarterback Daniel Jones can continue to exceed expectations.

The second half of the season was always going to be a big test, and they've already lost their past two games against teams with winning records (the Pittsburgh Steelers and Chiefs). Now every team remaining on their schedule has a winning record. They are still in the driver's seat. But that is going to change pretty quickly. Especially if they lose the first of those two Houston games on Sunday.
